Abstract

Blood transfusion is the process of transferring blood from a healthy person (donor) to a sick person (responder). Indonesia should have bloodstock of 4.5 million to 4.8 million blood bags per year, while PMI can only supply around 2 million blood bags, of which 64 percent are processed into blood components of 3 million blood components that can meet 70% of the blood needs of the Indonesian population in 520 cities/districts. The reason for the lack of blood supply is the lack of public awareness about the importance of donating blood. To increase the stock capacity of the blood needs set by WHO, PMI is trying to improve the quality and service of Blood Donor Units (UDD) which are spread in around 200 PMI Cities / Districts throughout Indonesia. The venue of this activity was held at the Dr Rusdi Polytechnic Campus in Medan. This counseling activity was attended by lecturers and students in collaboration with UTD-PMI Medan City. Total participants were 130 people. Participants were male and female. After the counseling, 50 people were willing to donate blood. However, 40 people were able to take blood.
